Mixed Media Textiles
I am an Irish political mixed media textile artist currently residing in Edinburgh. Since moving to Scotland in 2015, I have completed yearlong artist-in-residency programmes at the Edinburgh College of Art and George Watson’s College. I received my Master’s in Textile Design in 2014 from Norwich University of the Arts and was a recipient of the Arts and Humanity Research Council Award for my course of study. Before embarking on postgraduate study, I was an undergraduate student at University of Wales: Trinity Saint David: Coleg Sir Gar studying a BA (Hons) in Textile, Art, Design & Craft. On completion of my degree I received the Textile Student of the Year Award.
My current studio project focuses on Brexit and the impacts it will have on Ireland and the UK. As an Irish citizen from the North, Brexit is a major concern, as this may lead to the re-introduction of a hard border between the North and south, which will not only damage the economy and all the peace-building, but it might bring the violence back. These are some of the key questions that continue to inspire and depict my visual response to my subject matter.
