Chiho Harazaki

For the Art for Advent project, I used my usual art method, tape art, to express my support for recycling. Tape art is created with adhesive tape, such as electrical tape, masking tape, fluorescent tape, or washi tape. Tiny pieces of tape are cut by precision knife and scissors, creating each detail used to compose a whole art work. The hand-cut shapes and lines are reminiscent of woodcut and paper cut, or contemporary graphic illustration. Art has the power to transform everyday waste into treasures. I used items from our daily life – things we often take for granted: food, objects in nature, broken electronic devices, stationery, old goods found in the bottom of a drawer, and even the human body. I tried to put a shine on each object in a different way than before, and to bring new life to everyday objects.
