The idea behind this series of works for art for advent was to create pictures by using a pictorial formula. Each artwork had to contain these three elements: place, found object and a word or symbol. By using this formula I found it to be quite unpredictable as to how each picture would turn out, which made the process more exciting. At the same time, the individual artworks would be linked together because the same approach was followed. During the process I found myself more open and observant to what I would encounter during each day, selecting and rejecting options until settling on a final combination for the artwork. Taking inspiration from Douglas Adams character Dirk Gently, a detective who solves crimes through the connectedness of everything, I have taken this investigative approach to creating art. Through incorporating random places, objects and words together I have discovered connections and stories that would have otherwise been overlooked.
