Jess Carlock is a Portland based multidisciplinary artist working with painting, photography, printmaking and collage. Jess is particularly interested in how humans perceive and interact with the landscape as well as investigating the natures of memory and transformation. They served in the Marine Corps, and studied Art at the University of Oregon.
They create stylized and surreal landscapes, endeavoring to capture the subtle and intangible aspects of place and time, of light and feeling, as well as collages that explore ideas of individuality, multiplicity, and cultural memory. Their practice is intuitive in direction, and may include the use of recycled/repurposed material, drawing, found objects or photography.
