New York City
Maria Doubrovskaia was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, and always thought she would be a writer. She was 14 when her parents immigrated to America, taking her with them. At this time, to her dismay, she began to lose her connection to words and started to develop a relationship with the visual arts, especially painting. She studied art at Cornell University, in Rome, and eventually in St. Petersburg. She now lives and works in New York City. Maria's paintings are really a quest to recover a lost language.
